Bollywood Down Under
The hit Bollywood movie "Salaam Namaste,"
filmed entirely in my city of Melbourne, has led to growing Indian interest
in Australia.
Meanwhile, Australians are becoming increasingly aware of the entire
Bollywood phenomenon. My local video rental store now stocks Bollywood
movies. Music stores sell recordings of Bollywood music. In the main cities,
you'll find teachers of Bollywood dance.
I started this website to cover all this. I'll concentrate on Australia,
though also expect to monitor New Zealand and possibly also some of the
Pacific islands, such as Fiji, with its large Indian population.
By the way, my own introduction came a dozen or so years ago with the
purchase of a CD of music by Vijaya Anand. I loved it, and was hooked.
